Elias lunged for the audio file. At first, there was only static—the wet, rhythmic sound of heavy breathing. Then, a voice whispered, sounding less like a person and more like a collection of clicking insects.

Elias clicked the text file first. It was empty, save for a single timestamp: Today, 11:42 PM. He glanced at the corner of his screen. It was 11:38 PM.

His heart thudded against his ribs as he opened the image. It was a high-resolution drone shot of a house in the suburbs. The roof was missing a few shingles near the chimney. A blue sedan was parked in the driveway with a cracked taillight. It was his house. But in the driveway, there was something that wasn't there when he got home: a tall, thin figure draped in a yellow raincoat, standing perfectly still, looking directly up at the camera. When he tried to open it, the extraction bar didn't move from left to right. Instead, it flickered in bursts, the percentages jumping erratically: 4%, 82%, 11%, 99%. "You're almost out of time, Elias
