The story centers on the disappearance of the merchant ship Asphodel , which vanished without a trace three months into its maiden voyage. Morgan Johnson, Jack Brown, and their associate Eleanor May board the Asphodel’s sister ship, the Black Hawk , to investigate rumors of "haunted waters" and ghost ships. Their mission is quickly complicated by a mysterious creature and a web of treachery where trusting the wrong person can be fatal.
