The game begins with Mason strapped to a chair, being subjected to electroshock as his captors demand to know the meaning of the numbers he hears.

Mason’s journey starts with a failed attempt to assassinate Fidel Castro in Cuba. Captured by Cuban forces, he is handed over to Soviet General Nikita Dragovich and imprisoned in the Vorkuta gulag.

The campaign concludes with Mason finally identifying the broadcast source—a Soviet ship called the Rusalka —and stopping the transmission just before the chemical attack can be launched.
