Quaid is eventually captured and brought before Cohaagen, who reveals that the "recorded message" was a ruse to lead the Chancellor to the resistance leader, Matthias. After Cohaagen kills Matthias and begins the invasion, Quaid and Melina escape. They fight their way onto "The Fall," a massive gravity elevator that travels through the Earth's core.
